This is the basis on which we are able to enjoy the modern life we have today. In the whole of human history, man has had to apply himself in order to accomplish great things.
I think what's really sad is the notion that an entire generation of uneducated, unprepared, unmotivated, unthinking, weak minded, problem solving deficient "new users" who "just want it to work", are being encouraged to enter this field. Hmm, well as an old fox who comes from a generation that really had to apply themselves in order to make their way in life and their craft, and not expect things to be just handed on a plate to them. That it can't produce excellent results in the hands of an experienced LightWave artist/engineer?Īre you saying that it has to be dumbed down (a la Apple) and brought down to the lowest common denominator, in order to accommodate lazy minded new users, in order to survive?
So, are you saying that LightWave is no longer a viable or capable tool for 3D work? and I wouldn't have picked this form of ending for such a great piece of software. I have made a career over the last 30+ years using Lightwave to the benefit of many clients, movies, commercials, etc. Until I make the transition, it is still faster to get stuff done. I know there are plenty of other 3D apps out there also, each with their plusses and minuses, but I'll still use Lightwave until it won't run anymore.

Blender has the benefit of up-to-date features and predictable releases, plus large corporations throwing money into it for development. Plus, I still prefer Lightwave's renderer - although I really like EEVEE for speed. There is a simplicity and a level of maturity to Lightwave that is currently lacking in Blender, in my opinion, that will take time to acquire. My Maya and 3DS friends were always amazed at things I could do with VPR and before that, FPrime, many years before they had that feature.īut, having been learning another 3D app (Blender), I can say that Lightwave got a lot of things right. I miss the days when Lightwave was the first commercial 3D app to include things like Sub-D modeling, GI, etc. The slow demise of Lightwave over the years has been hard to watch. It has been an awful experience to see how my once favorite software fell into disrepair year after year, falling more and more behind each new release. The nostalgic users who claimed that automating basic functions and presets were unnecessary for things that took a damn long time in Lightwave to create were really an equal brake on Lightwave's ability to compete with 3D software that got the hang of it.
